Ayer estábamos viendo el nuevo documental “The September Issue” que cuenta cómo fue el diseño y la producción de la edición de Septiembre de 2007 de Vogue, la más grande de todas las ediciones que hacen en el año y por lo tanto la más complicada. Esperaba ver todo un documental dedicado a mostrar como Anna Wintour, la infame editora de la revista que inspiró el personaje de Miranda Priestley en “The Devil wears Prada”, abusa de sus empleados mirándolos fijamente, frunciendo la boca sin decirles nada hasta hacerlos sentir incómodos. Pero me encontré con otro personaje que me encantó y me dejó totalmente inspirada, la editora creativa de Vogue: Grace Coddington.

Tengo que confesar que no conocía a Grace Coddington, tal vez alguna vez vi en Amazon.com el libro que hicieron sobre ella pero no le puse mucha atención, pero después de anoche, tengo que decir que ahora se verdaderamente quién está detrás de las increíbles editoriales de Vogue US. Y no solo es una genia para la producción de moda y para crear narrativas que cuenta por medio de imágenes tomadas por los mejores fotógrafos del mundo,  sino que además con su personalidad simpáticona y su melena de pelo rojo desordenado acompañada siempre de outfits negros  o con toques blancos hace que uno durante todo el documental quiera adelantar las partes de Anna Wintour y ver más y más de Grace.

Además,  aparentemente es la única capaz de poner a Anna Wintour, la “reina de hielo del mundo de la moda” en su lugar, en el documental se ven varias situaciones en las que Coddington contradice a Wintour, o desobedece sus órdenes por amor al arte. Y es que esa es la gran diferencia, Anna Wintour parece (y debe estarlo con mucha razón) interesada sólo en vender revistas y en lo que sigue, mientras que Grace se inspira por el arte, por las tendencias, por crear  mundos estéticamente hermosos y situaciones de ensueño que hacen que el lector sonría y se sienta transportado.

En fin, me encantó la película, me encantó haber descubierto la existencia de Grace Coddington, conocer su historia y verla en acción creando sus increíbles  editoriales con los dioses de la fotografía de moda mundial.

Yesterday we were watching the new documentary “The September Issue” that shows how Vogue’s 2007 September issue was made,  september’s is the biggest issue of the year and therefore the most complicated. I was prepared to watch 90 minutes of how the infamous Editor in Chief of Vogue, Anna Wintour, the character that inspired the tyrant Miranda Priestley in The Devil wears Prada”, abuses her employees by staring at them while saying nothing and pursing her lips and making them feel unbelievably uncomfortable. But instead I found another character that inmediately won my heart and left me totally inspired, Vogue’s creative director: Grace Coddington.

I have to confess that I’ve never heard from Grace before, I might have seen the book they published about her on Amazon.com, but I never really paid much attention to it, but after last night, I have to say that I now really know who is the brain behind the brilliant and glamorous Vogue US editorials.   Not only is she a genious stylist and an amazing creator of narratives through fashion editorials shot by the world’s most renouned photographers, but she’s seems to be also an amazing person, with a great fun personality that makes you want to fast forward the Anna Wintour parts of the film and see more of  Grace’s mane of red hair, of her witty comments and humour, of her impecable sense of style and of her monochrome ensambles.

Besides, she’s apparently the only one able to put Anna Wintour “the ice queen of the fashion industry” in her place. In the film you can see some situations in which Coddington contradicts Wintour or explicitly dissobeys her orders, all for the love of art. And that’s exactly the point,  Anna Wintour seems to care (and very reasonably since it’s her job) about selling magazines and what’s coming next, while Grace Coddington seems to be inspired by art, trends, and creating aesthetically gorgeous worlds and dream like situations that transport the readers and make them smile.

Anyway, I have to say I loved the movie, particulary loved discovering Grace Coddington, learning her story, and seeing her work creating her fashion editorials and working with fashion’s photography’s gods.

No puedo creer que no hubiera visto estas fotos que Mario Testino le hizo a Kate Moss para la edición de octubre de la revista Vogue de Italia. El título me parece acertadísimo porque así como nunca habrá otra como Kate, nunca habrá alguien más como Testino.

I can’t believe I missed this pics of Kate Moss that Mario Testino shot for Vogue Italy’s 2006 October issue. I find the title incredibly accurate since there really is no one like Kate, and there never will be any one like Testino.

Hace varios días les posteaba una hermosa editorial de la edición número 5 de la Revista Lula en la que se mostraba el look andrógino aniñado tipo Twiggy. Justo para enfatizar lo vigente que es este editorial me encontré con este que salió en la edición de Octubre de la revista Vogue de Estados Unidos con Michelle Williams antigua actriz de la serie “Dawson’s Creek”.

A couple of days ago I posted a beautyful editorial from Lola mag’s issue 5 that showed a very andorginous, garçon kind of look, in a Twiggy sort of way. Just to enphasize just how valid this editorial is, I came up with this one in Vogue USA’s October issue featuring Michelle Williams former member of the cast of Tv series “Dawson’s Creek”.

Esta editorial tomada por Mario Testino de la actriz Sienna Miller para la edición de Octubre de la revista Vogue UK no sólo es hermosísima, sino que además reúne de una manera impecable las dos tendencias dominantes de la temporada: lo romántico y lo rocker punk. Si alguien sabe quién es el productor/estilista por favor cuénteme porque quiero ver más de su trabajo.
